Ex-AMC Employee Reveals How to Bring Outside Food Into Theaters in Video Viewed 1M Times

It is pretty common to see the price at concession stands and wish you brought your own food, even though it is technically not allowed in the theater. But a woman on TikTok went viral after sharing information about how to sneak outside food and beverages inside the movie.

The video, posted by @t.renns, has over 1.1 million views since being posted Monday. In the video, the woman stitches a TikTok of a famous user attempting to sneak her Chipotle bowl into an AMC Theater by putting it down her pants so it could not be seen.

The clip then cut to the woman explaining that she used to work at an AMC Theater back when she was a teenager. She said that employees cannot actually stop people from sneaking in food.

"We legally can't stop you from bringing food into the movie theater," she said in the video. "If you just say like 'I have to eat' there's literally nothing we can do."

The video, which has over 115,000 likes and 739 shares, had a bunch of conflicted users in the comments.

According to Slate, movie theater employees find it aggravating having to clean up after trash left by people bringing in outside food and drinks. The article, written by a former movie theater employee, featured comments from various employees claiming to have found outside food-related trash almost every time they cleaned a theater.

The unspoken rules for moviegoers include staying quiet during the movie, silencing cell phones, and cleaning up after the movie is finished. But according to Slate, sneaking in food and then leaving the trash in your seat for an employee to find is much too common.

In the video, the woman claimed anyone could bring in outside food and beverages because they "can't stop you," but according to officials at AMC Theaters, outside food or drinks are restricted inside the theater.

"AMC's 'no outside food and drink' policy is enforced at every AMC location," a representative from AMC told Newsweek. "That policy is printed on our Code of Conduct, which is on display at all AMC locations and can be found on AMC Theatres' website in the FAQ section"

Some users in the comments recounted the odd ways they brought outside food into a movie theater as well as random foods they've seen people sneak in.

"I have Postmate'd food to AMC in the middle of a movie," one user commented. "They do not care."

"Someone had chicken parmigiana the other night," another person wrote. "With bread and salad."

But other commenters, including someone who claimed to be a manager at an AMC, said that the woman was actually incorrect.

"It's a healthcode violation, I don't make the rules," the person said in the comments. But another person replied to the comment saying, "I'm also a manager and it is actually correct."

While there are technically no laws that say people can't bring outside food into the theater, employees have the right to legally kick someone out of the building for breaking the code of conduct.
